RE: ANGEL 7.2 Upgrade News
Date: August 14, 2007
On May 10th, 2007, Michigan State University upgraded the ANGEL learning management system from version 6.3 to version 7.2. The ANGEL User Support Team, with the help of faculty and staff who used ANGEL during summer 2007, has developed the following tips to get you started in ANGEL 7.2:
- Start early, many things have changed and it takes time to get used to the new system.
- While we believe we have resolved most of the issues with the new version of ANGEL, it is always best practice to make a backup of your section prior to making any changes.
- A step-by-step guide for copying your course to the new semester is available at http://help.angel.msu.edu/faculty/copy_course.php
- ANGEL has a helpful wizard to assist in Gradebook setup. Subsequent changes to Gradebook settings must be made manually.
- An improved quizzing tool called Assessment is available. While output looks similar, building an Assessment is different than building a Quiz. For more information about Assessments, see http://help.angel.msu.edu/faculty/faculty_whatsnew_7_2.php#assessment_item.
- The ANGEL 6.3 feature known as “My Content” has changed into a more functional feature called the Learning Object Repository (LOR). Files stored in “My Content” are now available in your LOR. Links to these content items will need to be re-established. Get started with the LOR documentation at http://help.angel.msu.edu/Online_Documentation_ANGEL_7.2/LOR/.
- The ANGEL messaging (mail) system now shows all messages in one central interface, rather than separately in each course or group. For more information, visit: http://help.angel.msu.edu/Online_Documentation_ANGEL_7.2/Communicate_Tab/.
- Training opportunities are available at http://train.msu.edu/faculty/angel/index.asp with overview of additional new features at http://help.angel.msu.edu/faculty/faculty_whatsnew_7_2.php.
Over the summer, multiple problems in version 7.2 were diagnosed and resolved and many enhancements were made to improve the performance of the ANGEL service. A list of resolved issues is available by visiting http://help.angel.msu.edu/upgrade/resolved_issues.php. You can review a current list of known outstanding issues at http://help.angel.msu.edu/upgrade/known_issues.php.
Scheduled maintenance to the ANGEL system changed during the summer and it now occurs every Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Detailed information regarding maintenance appears on the ANGEL login page at http://angel.msu.edu, as well as on the MSU Service Status page at http://servicestatus.msu.edu.
